Fishergate – Reels them in

A fantastic new initiative at Fishersgate Amateur Boxing Club is proving a big hit with people living with Parkinson's disease.

Research has shown that boxing can improve symptoms of Parkinson's, helping those diagnosed with the disease to maintain higher levels of function and quality of life. That fact wasn't lost on Nick Clark, a coach at the Brighton club, who set up the programme with funding help from Maverick Stars Trust.

Debut For Wimborne ABC ‘Girls in Gloves’

The 'Girls in Gloves' boxing initiative - funded by Maverick Stars - has two more success stories from Wimbourne ABC.

Thanks to the programme, which aims to help tackle mental health problems and raise female participation levels in boxing, more girls are now competing in the sport. Grace Shire, 13, and 14 year old Gabby Strange are the latest to have their first bouts this weekend.

East Brighton Fit and Fed

East Brighton ABC – Fighting Fit on the Coast

Another Maverick Stars project has cooked up a storm with East Brighton's 'Fit and Fed' project proving a huge hit.

Maverick's funding helped children aged 11-16 to enjoy an hour of training every day followed by a nutritious lunch.  Those that completed the boxing training and other tasks were awarded certificates of achievement.
